The Pearl
The heart of the “Portes du Soleil”! Morzine-Avoriaz is situated at the heart of the “Portes du Soleil”, the major skiing area between France and Switzerland, between Lake Geneva and Montblanc. This is a spectacular place for a holiday with two destinations in one: Morzine and Avoriaz. Morzine is an authentic mountain village, in a location between forests and peaks closely hugging the mountain contours at 1000 metres. Avoriaz is a modern, no car skiing resort 1800 metres high and is sure to impress you with its extraordinary architecture. The region provides the perfect setting for a magnificent winter holiday with everything you need for lively skiing and winter sports activities; in summer this is the ideal location for mountain bike touring and hiking.
Soft mobility connections
Travel to Morzine-Avoriaz without the car! By train: SNCF to Thonon or Cluses stations 30 km distant with regular bus transfers - link to the CFF station at Genf-Cornavin. On foot: the major hiking route GR 5 Amsterdam-Nice / the French-Swiss hiking path Tour des Portes du Soleil. By bicycle: there are numerous great routes here on the tracks of the Tour de France.
Soft mobility in the pearl
Free buses, hiking and cycling! Winter puts the following excellent services at your disposal: free buses in Morzine (9 bus lines operating from 8 am to around 8.15 in the evening), bus linking the communities of the Vallée d'Aulps (makes a round trip every 1 to 1.5 hours), travel with a horse-drawn sleigh. All the ski lifts in Morzine and Avoriaz are easily reached on foot. These pearls are a real treasure for the hiker and cyclist in summer.
Special soft mobility services
The pioneers in France! Morzine-Avoriaz - a region committed to controlled development of tourism. Soft mobility is the main objective. The focus here is to improve access and mobility without the need for a car (www.mobilalp.fr/hautchablais/fr), improving local public transport services (there is a current test phase for electric buses) and the promotion of soft mobility with pedestrian and cycling paths plus entirely new structures for the community centres.
