Environmental education centre in Mallnitz

In the Alpine Pearls member village of Mallnitz in the Hohe Tauern National Park, great value is attached to environmental education. For this reason, the existing education center is to be expanded into a comprehensive environmental education center. The already existing education center of the Carinthian community Mallnitz contains information about Swarowski- Waterschool, climate school / alliance, NP-Rangerlabs and further education of teachers. These educational areas are now to be supplemented and completed by dual training programs about the Alpine Convention, which can be carried out indoors and outdoors in the adjacent Hohe Tauern National Park. The international agreement for the protection of the Alps, signed by 8 Alpine states (Germany, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia), is taking into account the social and economic basis of life of the local population - the sustainable development of the Alpine region and the protection of the ecological balance as a common habitat for humans and animals. In order to comply with the agreement, the contracting parties have also committed to provide education and training, as well as to inform the public about the objectives and measures of the Convention. To ensure this, the Austrian Carinthian Association of the Austrian Alpine Association decided in February 2019 to submit this project within the framework of the "Call for applications for funding at the Federal Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism" (BMNT) for the project type "Strengthening the potential of alpine rural areas", on the topic "Implementation of the Alpine Convention in municipalities". Employees of administrative institutions are to be familiarized with the work, contents and objectives of the Alpine Convention through this educational project in order to be able to integrate this knowledge into their work on a daily basis. With this project, the protection of the Alps is presented to the public and placed at the center of the Environmental Education Center Mallnitz.
